DeLauro Issues Statement on Secretary Hegseth’s Order to Kill Caribbean Boat Crew
WASHINGTON —Today, US Representative Rosa DeLauro issued the following statement regarding Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s reported order to kill the entire crew of a vessel suspected to be carrying narcotics in the Caribbean Sea:
“The Washington Post’s reporting on Secretary Hegseth’s personal order to kill all survivors of a U.S. airstrike on a boat in the Caribbean is of grave concern. If accurate, this is nothing less than a war crime. Shipwrecked airstrike survivors are not a credible threat, and killing them in cold blood is a moral stain on our nation. The responsibility for this crime lies with Secretary Hegseth, Stephen Miller, and President Trump, who have demolished our nation’s credibility and reputation by flagrantly violating international law and the laws of armed combat, which forbid the deliberate targeting of defenseless people—laws which America was vital in creating following the Second World War.
“I am calling for immediate bipartisan briefings for members of Congress on these strikes, and an immediate end to this unauthorized, illegal campaign of murder on the ocean.”
