DeLauro Issues Statement on Supreme Court Hearing of Trump Tariffs

November 5, 2025

NEW HAVEN —Today, US Representative Rosa DeLauro issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s hearing of oral arguments on the legality of President Trump’s tariffs:

“President Trump’s unpredictable tariffs are driving up prices for families who are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis, costing the average household nearly $1,800. The Yale Budget Lab has found that clothing prices are expected to rise over 7 percent, automobiles and vehicle parts over 8 percent, and electronics over 10 percent. Additionally, the tariffs on industrial supplies for American companies are expected to raise costs by nearly $600 per household.

“Trump only wants more power for himself, raising and lowering tariffs on a whim while granting exemptions that benefit his family businesses and billionaire allies. Yesterday, voters had their first chance to show the President how they feel about his corrupt policies and their verdict was clear: Trump’s illegal power grab must end. I will be watching the Supreme Court’s decision closely and will continue to support the separation of powers and the Congressional power to set trade policy, as explicitly stated in Article I of the Constitution.”
