DeLauro Lauds Pentagon Decision to Bring Remains of Sailors Killed at Pearl Harbor Back Home
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) issued the following statement today, as Guilford resident Tom Gray and his family joined local veterans and community members to celebrate the Pentagon’s recent announcement that the remains of up to 388 sailors and Marines who lost their lives aboard the USS Oklahoma during the attack in 1941 will be exhumed and returned to their families back home.
“The Pentagon’s recent announcement will allow families across the country to bring their lost loved ones home. Edwin Hopkins served his country and made the ultimate sacrifice as he served to defend the liberties and freedoms we all cherish. But it was not only Mr. Hopkins that made that sacrifice, it was his family as well. Mr. Hopkins’ family never had the opportunity to say good-bye. They never had the opportunity for the closure that we all seek when we lose a loved one. I was proud to join my colleagues in this effort and am so pleased that Tom Gray and his family will finally have the opportunity to bring Mr. Hopkins home.”
