DeLauro Named Chair of Labor, HHS, Education Appropriations Subcommittee, Regains Seat on Budget Committee

January 24, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC (January 24, 2019)Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today announced she has been named Chair of the House Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee. In the 115th Congress, DeLauro served as the subcommittee's ranking member.

"From supporting our nation's public schools and providing the research dollars to NIH, to funding workforce development and worker protection programs, the Labor-HHS-Education bill has always been known as the ‘people's bill'—reflecting our priorities as a nation. Too many Americans are struggling in jobs that do not pay them enough to live on, and robust public investments in these key national priorities can help jumpstart stagnant wages," said DeLauro. "Our committee is also poised to conduct rigorous oversight following two years of Trump administration's rollbacks that have hollowed out of these crucial agencies."

DeLauro will remain on the Agriculture Appropriations subcommittee as a senior Member, and will also regain a seat on the House Budget Committee.

"On the Agriculture Subcommittee, I look forward to protecting our nation's frontline anti-hunger programs, strengthening food, drug, and medical device safety, and creating economic opportunities for our farming and rural economies," continued DeLauro. "And in the Budget Committee, I will work hard to ensure appropriators' hands are not tied by overly restrictive budget caps from years past."
