April 27, 2015

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) and Small Business Administration (SBA) Regional Administrator Seth Goodall today met with and congratulated Kate Hughes, owner of Perk on Main and Perk on Church, and the SBA’s Connecticut Woman-Owned Small Business Person of the Year. They were joined at Perk on Main by Connecticut’s SBA Assistant District Director for Economic Development, Moraima Gonzalez.

“Small businesses are the engine of Connecticut’s economy and Katie is a wonderful example of a smart entrepreneur who took a chance that worked out wonderfully. She is not just contributing to our economic growth, she is showing businesses can be both successful, as well as environmentally sustainable and socially conscious. When small businesses like Katie’s succeed, we all succeed.”

The SBA provided more than $220 million in loans to over 500 Connecticut small businesses in 2014, helping start businesses, make purchases and create jobs.

Hughes started Durham’s Perk on Main in 2002 and opened a second location, Perk on Church, in Guilford in 2010. Last year she started the food truck Perk on Wheels.
