DeLauro to Serve on His Holiness Pope Francis’ Escort Committee
Will Accompany Him into the House Chamber This Morning
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) announced today that she has been selected to serve on the Escort Committee for Pope Francis’ address to Congress this morning. DeLauro was asked to serve on the Committee, which will accompany Pope Francis along the center aisle en route to the rostrum where he will deliver his speech, by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
“I am honored to be a part of the Escort Committee for today’s historic speech, which is sure to be a beautiful, joyful and moving occasion. Pope Francis is an extraordinary individual who has reminded us all of the rich history of the Catholic Church on social justice, and especially our moral commitment to help the poor and vulnerable.
“This is a time of celebration and I join American Catholics in welcoming His Holiness Pope Francis to America.”
DeLauro was part of the congressional delegation representing the United States at Pope Francis’ installation in 2013. She also attended the mass he led at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception yesterday afternoon.
