DeLauro Slams New Trump Tax Plan as Giveaway to Corporations and the Wealthy
WASHINGTON, DC (April, 26, 2017) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding President Trump's new tax plan, which would consolidate tax brackets to make the tax code less progressive, slash the corporate tax rate to 15 percent, make it easier for multinational corporations to shift their profits overseas, repeal the estate tax, and repeal some taxes on investment income.
"President Trump's plan to give tax breaks to big corporations and the wealthy directly contradicts his campaign promise that he would work for the American people. From dropping the corporate tax rate to 15 percent, to eliminating the estate tax, President Trump has shown he is committed to prioritizing the wealthiest over middle and low-income Americans.
"And since we have not seen President Trump's tax returns, we can only guess the many benefits he, his family, and his corporation will receive under this plan. President Trump's tax plan would hurt families in Connecticut and across the country, and they deserve better than a plan that is nothing more than a giveaway to the nation's millionaires and billionaires."
