DeLauro Statement on the $622M Zika Response Appropriations Act
WASHINGTON, DC (May 16, 2016) – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the Zika Response Appropriations Act, which would provide $662 million to respond to the Zika virus.
“The Republican response to the Zika virus is an outrage. The President requested $1.9 billion in funding in February and asked Congress repeatedly to act. Now it is May and Republicans are offering a paltry $622 million, using funds that were set aside to fight Ebola and help states respond to public health crises and emergencies,” said Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro. “Republicans are robbing from one public health crisis to help pay for another, all while nickel and diming the states. Our window to act is quickly closing and the Zika threat will become a reality for millions of Americans over the next few months, if not weeks. Congress needs to fully fund the President’s request now—without stealing critical resources dedicated to other public health emergencies.”
