DeLauro Statement on America’s D+ Infrastructure Score
WASHINGTON, DC (March 9, 2017) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the American Society of Civil Engineers' American Infrastructure Report Card, which this year gave the United States a D+ score for the nation's infrastructure.
"American infrastructure is crumbling across the country and Congress must act. The report card from the American Society of Civil Engineers demonstrates the immense work we must undertake to repair our roads, bridges, railways, airports, water systems, and more. While President Trump claims to have a major infrastructure and jobs plan waiting in the wings, the safety of Americans is at stake. Every day that we delay acting is another day closer to a major infrastructure failure—much like we have seen recently with the Oroville Dam in California and Flint Water Crisis in Michigan.
"Congress should immediately enact my National Infrastructure Development Bank Act, which would address the tremendous shortfall in infrastructure investment, create jobs, spur long-term economic growth, and improve our competitiveness across the globe. This legislation is ready to go and would build on President Trump's campaign promise to create millions of American jobs and rebuild our nation's crumbling infrastructure. Now is the time to act."
