DeLauro Statement on Capital Gazette Shooting
WASHINGTON, DC — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement after a shooter killed at least five people at the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland.
"My heart goes out to all of the victims' families, first responders, and the entire community in the aftermath the mass shooting at the Capital Gazette. These events are occurring so frequently that too many people have become numb to them and resigned to thinking this is just the way things will always be. But we can change this paradigm. Congress has the power to act. Gun violence prevention measures that the vast majority of Americans support—measures like banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, requiring a background check for every commercial gun sale, and funding for federal research into the causes of gun violence—are languishing in Congress. They deserve a vote. These efforts may not prevent all shootings, but they will help save lives. The Republican majority needs to step up."
