DeLauro Statement on Confirmation of Eugene Scalia as Next DOL Secretary

September 26, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC (September 26, 2019) – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, today released the following statement after Eugene Scalia was confirmed by the United States Senate as the next Secretary of the Department of Labor.

"Eugene Scalia has dedicated his career to promoting corporate interests while dismantling worker protections and breaking up unions. He fought on behalf of Wall Street and corporations like Walmart as they look to cut costs at the expense of working people. That is not the background a Secretary of Labor should have. The Department of Labor's mission is to protect American workers. DOL has jurisdiction over job training programs, combatting wage theft, and promoting workplace safety. With so many people living paycheck-to-paycheck, these issues are more important than ever. I will continue to fight to ensure Secretary Scalia respects workers and organized labor, and I will hold him accountable when he fails to uphold that standard."
