DeLauro Statement on Confirmed CT H1N1 Flu Case

May 1, 2009

New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) issued the following statement on confirmation that a Connecticut resident tested positive for influenza A H1N1.

"It has now been confirmed that a resident of Stratford has tested positive for the influenza A H1N1 and Connecticut now joins the nearly two dozen other states who also have confirmed cases. I know public health officials are working tirelessly and aggressively to minimize the severity of the outbreak and closely monitor for additional cases.

"With this confirmed case of H1N1 in Connecticut, I would again remind people to be vigilant of their own health and to continue to take common-sense steps to avoid health problems, such as frequently washing hands, staying home from work or school if illness is suspected, and seeking appropriate medical attention. I would also encourage employers to be understanding of employees who need time off if they or a dependent feels ill and not penalize them for an absence."

"I applaud our health care professionals who are on the front-lines and who are being vigilant in the face of influenza A H1N1."
