DeLauro Statement on Congressman Earl Blumenauer

October 31, 2023

NEW HAVEN, CT – Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement on Congressman Earl Blumenauer’s (OR-03) announcement that he will not seek re-election for the 119th Congress:

“Since coming to Congress in 1996, Congressman Earl Blumenauer has been a tireless advocate for the people of Oregon, and before that as a State representative, County Commissioner, and City Councilman. Earl was also one of my closest partners in Congress, and a dear friend.

“He has been a creative and effective legislator, leading with intelligence and passion. As the Chairman of the Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee, he successfully fought to ensure that American workers and the environment were protected in the U.S. Mexico Canada Trade Agreement (USMCA)—which I was proud to have worked alongside him for as part of the USMCA Working Group. In addition to leading on trade issues, Earl has been a champion for rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure, protecting public lands, taking action on climate change, and addressing criminal justice reform. And of course, his leadership of the Congressional Bike Caucus helped bring the issue of safer streets to the center of how Congress thinks about transportation.

“I want to congratulate Earl on his five decades of public service and wish him and his family the best in this next chapter. He will be greatly missed. I look forward to our continued work together until the end of his term in January 2025. Together we will continue to advance policies that help working class families across the country.”
