DeLauro Statement on Court Ruling Blocking Medicaid Work Requirements

October 30, 2026

Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) responded to news that a federal court had blocked the implementation of unlawful Medicaid work requirements under the so-called Big Beautiful Bill. Connecticut Attorney General Tong led the lawsuit that blocked this requirement.

“Today’s ruling is a victory for every Connecticut resident and family that counts on HUSKY (Medicaid) in our state. The Trump Administration tried to force people with serious illnesses and disabilities to prove they are sick enough to keep their health care. The courts said an estimated 110,000 people in our state were at risk of losing coverage if this rule took place. Most of them were already working. Work requirements do not create jobs. Forcing people off of their healthcare because of this would have made many Americans sicker and unable to work.

“I am grateful to Attorney General William Tong for taking this fight to the court and winning it for Connecticut and all of the United States. While I will not be surprised if the Trump Administration appeals this decision, I will keep fighting in Congress to protect Medicaid and make sure no one loses their healthcare because of the Trump administration’s cruelty.”
