DeLauro Statement on Deaths of Humanitarian Aid Workers in Gaza
Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released a statement in response to a recent Israeli air strike that resulted in the deaths of humanitarian aid workers:
“The killing of humanitarian aid workers is shameful. The recent Israeli air strike that resulted in additional deaths of humanitarian aid workers, this time of World Central Kitchen staff, cannot be tolerated. Israel’s indiscriminate bombing campaign only results in further devastating loss. There are several organizations working around the clock and in dangerous conditions to distribute aid and ultimately save lives. Their work must not be impeded. Too many depend on it for their survival.
“The Israeli government must exhaust all efforts to preserve and protect innocent civilians and humanitarian aid workers caught in the middle of this conflict. Over one million innocent Palestinians in Gaza are facing famine. Food cannot be used as a weapon of war. Israel must open additional crossings to allow humanitarian aid to be immediately delivered into the region – these critical resources have been held up for far too long. There need to be at least 500 trucks going into the region with aid per day. The deconfliction system for humanitarian deliveries must be improved so aid workers can have confidence in their security. We also need an immediate ceasefire of at least six weeks and for hostages held by Hamas to be freed.”
