DeLauro Statement on Fourth Anniversary of Sandy Hook Shooting
WASHINGTON, DC (December 14, 2016) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the fourth anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting.
“Four years ago, our hearts were broken by a senseless and unspeakable act of gun violence at Sandy Hook Elementary. And while the grief and pain for the families who lost a child or parent endures, we can find hope and strength in the resilience of Newtown. We will never forget the 26 beautiful lives we lost on that cold December day and we must honor their memory with action, for no community should ever have to experience what happened in ours.
“Following the tragedy at Sandy Hook, we said never again. However, from Charleston to Roseburg, and from San Bernardino to Orlando, countless other communities know the devastating and lasting effects of gun violence. We have a moral responsibility to address the issue of universal background checks, to keep guns out of the hands of potential terrorists, to allow research to be conducted, and to ban assault weapons. Congress must enact legislation that has the power to help save lives.”
