DeLauro Statement on Groundbreaking Ceremony for Fisher House Connecticut
WEST HAVEN, CT (April 12, 2017) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding yesterday’s groundbreaking ceremony for Fisher House Connecticut in West Haven.
“Congratulations to Fisher House, the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, and West Haven on breaking ground for this new facility. Bringing this facility to our community has been a goal of Friends of Fisher House Connecticut for more than 10 years and it is critical to serving the needs of our veterans and their families. I am pleased to support your mission in our local communities and am thrilled to finally see this groundbreaking take place.
“Our communities would not be the same without the efforts of volunteers whose energy, compassion, and commitment touches people’s lives every day. I have tremendous admiration for your efforts to meet the needs of our military heroes and their families. From the beginning, you understood the need for this facility, while also seeking to preserve a quality of life for our veterans. Thank you for all that you are doing and I look forward to joining you for the opening of Fisher House Connecticut.”
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, there are 71 Fisher Houses nationwide, all near military hospitals or VA facilities. Since 1990, Fisher Houses across the nation have provided services to over 305,000 families who have stayed more than 7 million days, saving them a combined $360 million in hotel and transportation costs.
