DeLauro Statement on HHS Transferring $385 Million to Unaccompanied Children Program

March 8, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC (March 8, 2019) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement after the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) notified the Appropriations Committee of its intention to reallocate $385 million from HHS programs to the Unaccompanied Children program.

"The Trump administration is once again robbing vital health and human services initiatives in order to pay for their failed policies. This $385 million reallocation takes money away from groundbreaking medical research into HIV/AIDS, cancer, mental health, as well as from Head Start, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, and much more. This follows HHS's reallocation of $446 million late last year. We cannot continue to spend taxpayer dollars on the President's manufactured crisis at the border, which is government-sanctioned child abuse."

DeLauro serves as Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee that funds the Department of Health and Human Services.
