DeLauro Statement on Human Donor Milk Recall

August 7, 2025

Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released a statement in response to a human donor milk recall in nine states:

“I urge all families and facilities in possession of affected breast milk to follow Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidance and discard or return recalled bottles. This recall has reached the second highest risk level set by food inspectors at the FDA and could pose serious health risks to infants if used.

“I am relieved that there are no reports of sick or hospitalized infants so far. However, this recall underscores the need for more oversight and transparency in the donor milk supply chain. In the coming weeks, I will be reintroducing the Donor Milk Safety Act, to establish a regulatory framework for donor milk banks. Though this milk bank seemed to have solid safety practices in place, the FDA should regularly inspect these facilities to ensure the highest standards of safety for our most vulnerable – our babies – who depend on this vital nutrition.”
