DeLauro Statement on Indonesia’s Intent to Join the TPP
Renews Call for Administration to Release Agreement Text Immediately
WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today on the announcement Indonesia will join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP):
“Instead of trying to sell the Trans-Pacific Partnership around the globe, the Administration should tell Americans how this deal will increase jobs and wages here at home. But they cannot do that, because they know the TPP is a bad deal for everything from manufacturing to the environment to the price of drugs for our seniors and the safety of the food we feed our children.
“Apparently Indonesia’s leadership has seen enough of the text to know they want to join this backroom deal. I only wish the American public and Members of Congress had been given the same consideration. Today marks three weeks since a deal was announced, yet we are told that negotiators are still huddling to finish the text. Enough is enough. The Administration needs to rip off the Band-Aid and stop hiding this agreement from the rest of the country.”
