DeLauro Statement on the Italy Earthquake
NEW HAVEN, CT (August 25, 2016) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement on the devastating earthquake in Italy and the ongoing response efforts.
“This week’s earthquake in central Italy is both tragic and heartbreaking. As Italy continues its recovery efforts, the United States stands with one of our closest friends and allies, and as President Obama has said, we are prepared to offer any assistance the nation may need during this time.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the Italian people and all of those affected by this disaster. As home to one of the nation’s proudest Italian-American communities, New Haven and Connecticut have many ties to Italy and we are ready to step up and assist with aid and relief efforts.”
Earlier today, DeLauro reached out to the local Italian-American community to discuss a local response effort to the earthquake. Over the coming days, leaders in the community will provide information on how residents can assist the Italian people following this disaster.
If you have friends or family in Italy, the State Department is advising citizens to contact them directly or via social media to check on their status. U.S. citizens abroad in Italy who need assistance should contact the U.S. Embassy at 06-4674 2944 or USCitizensRome@state.gov.
