DeLauro Statement on Massey Energy Company CEO

WASHINGTON, DC (December 3, 2015) – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the conviction of the former CEO of Massey Energy Company.

“American workers deserve a safe and secure workplace where they can earn a paycheck and provide for their families. Every executive needs to play by the rules, especially when it comes to employee safety. Conspiring to violate safety regulations and deceiving regulators is completely unacceptable and we must do more to ensure that we are protecting American workers. As Ranking Member on the Labor, Health, and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee, I know firsthand the effects that dodging safety regulations can have on employees. I am glad to see that the federal jury convicted the former CEO of Massey Energy Company of his crimes and I hope this verdict brings some closure to the 29 families who were affected by this tragedy.”
