DeLauro Statement on Middletown Trans-Pacific Partnership Resolution
WASHINGTON, DC (December 8, 2015) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the City of Middletown passing a bipartisan resolution opposing the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
“The City of Middletown recognizes the disastrous effects that the Trans-Pacific Partnership would have on our communities and I thank them for opposing a bad trade deal that will cost Americans jobs and lower wages. As the Common Council recognized by passing this bipartisan resolution, opposing TPP is not a Democratic issue, nor a Republican issue, it is an American issue. We cannot afford to enter into secretly negotiated trade deals with undemocratic countries that do not meet the rigorous standards we have established here at home. With substandard labor, environmental, and food safety regulations, these countries would put the safety of American families at jeopardy. Americans deserve better.”
