DeLauro Statement on Misguided Trump Rule to ‘Fix’ the Affordable Care Act

February 15, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC (February 15, 2017) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding a new rule from the Trump Administration that is aimed at fixing the Affordable Care Act, yet only stands to reduce the enrollment period, limit coverage options, and make health insurance more expensive for consumers.

"For months, the Trump Administration has been waging a war on Affordable Care Act enrollment and this new rule is just the latest attempt to sabotage the program. If this rule is finalized, the Trump Administration will cut the enrollment period by more than half, give insurance corporations the option to kick doctors and other providers out of plans, and limit the number of providers consumers can visit.

"Further, this rule allows insurers to shift more of the cost burden onto consumers, raising the cost of lifesaving care for Americans. By calling for repeal of the ACA without replacing it, President Trump and Congressional Republicans have created the instability in the market that this misguided rule seeks to address. These attacks on Americans' health insurance must end."
