DeLauro Statement on New CT Department of Labor Contact Center

July 16, 2020

DeLauro Secured $1B Nationwide in Federal Coronavirus Relief Funding for This Project

WASHINGTON, DC –Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Chair of the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, released the following statement on the opening of the new Connecticut Department of Labor Contact Center:

"I was thrilled to hear about the opening of the new federally funded CT Department of Labor (CT DOL) Contact Center earlier today. Since mid-March, the Connecticut Department of Labor has received 708,000 claims for unemployment, which is roughly five years' worth of claims, and at times there was a backlog of up to six weeks. With this unprecedented volume, and with my own office inundated with inquiries, I was happy to help provide the CT DOL with a total of $11 million in federal coronavirus relief funding to help them process claims in a more timely and efficient manner. I look forward to this new service alleviating the anxiety felt by so many CT residents who are struggling to have their claims resolved."
