DeLauro Statement on New Report Detailing the Impacts of Repealing the ACA

December 7, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC (December 7, 2016) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the Urban Institute’s new report, which details the consequences of the Republican’s plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act without providing a replacement.

“For years, Republicans have touted their plans to ‘repeal and replace’ the Affordable Care Act, deriding the law as an assault on the American people. While Republicans have had more than six years to develop a replacement, they are still empty handed. Next year, when Republicans finally make their goal a reality and roll back parts of the ACA, they will be making an enormous mistake in stripping health care from nearly 30 million Americans and more than doubling the nation’s uninsured rate.

“This new report from the Urban Institute exposes the shocking consequences of Republican action and the real world effects that repealing the ACA will have on the American people. By eliminating subsidies to small businesses and individuals that buy insurance in the marketplaces, repealing the ACA will leave the most vulnerable Americans without care and do lasting damage to our health care system. When American lives are at stake, we need a plan that is more than half-baked. The American people deserve better and I am going to fight any attempts to repeal the ACA.”

DeLauro is the Senior Democrat on the subcommittee responsible for funding the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education.
