DeLauro Statement on the Passage of the Congressional Republican Budget That Threatens Seniors and Borrows from Our Children’s Future to Pay for Tax Cuts for Millionaires
WASHINGTON, DC (October 26, 2017) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement in response to the passage of the Congressional Republicans' budget for Fiscal Year 2018.
"A budget is a moral document that reflects of our values. With this budget, Congressional Republicans are prioritizing millionaires and robbing the middle class. It dismantles our social safety net and borrows from our children's future to pay for tax cuts for millionaires, billionaires, and corporations. It includes trillions in cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and SNAP and threatens the healthcare of our nation's seniors and the vulnerable. This budget is an assault on the values of our nation."
"The passage of this heartless budget fast-tracks Republicans' plan to cut taxes for the wealthiest Americans and corporations while raising taxes for many middle class families. The Republican budget and tax framework are completely out of touch with the reality American families face every day. We should be focused on raising their wages and creating good-paying jobs, not pandering to special interests and corporate lobbyists. Instead of continuing down this partisan path, Republicans should come to the table with Democrats to create a tax reform package that puts middle-class families front and center."
