DeLauro Statement on the Passing of Wallingford Lawmaker Mary Fritz

July 10, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC (July 10, 2016) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement on the passing of Wallingford lawmaker Mary Fritz.

"It is with a heavy heart today that I extend my sympathy to the family of Mary Fritz. Mary was a Wallingford institution and a legend in the Connecticut General Assembly. Mary has always been someone I looked up to as a role model and a pioneer for women in leadership. She used her leadership positions - as Assistant Deputy Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Deputy Majority Leader - to move forward so much critical legislation that touched the lives of families across our state. Legislation like comprehensive job training, Managed Care Reform, funding for elderly health screenings, and 48 hour maternity stays.

"Mary never forgot where she came from. She was a teacher and small businesswoman before going to the Assembly and those roots led her to fight for working families each and every day. Mary left an indelible mark on Connecticut and she will be greatly missed. We need more legislators like Mary Fritz."
