DeLauro Statement on President Biden’s FY24 Budget Proposal

March 9, 2023

Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released a statement in response to President Biden’s proposed FY24 budget.

“The budget proposal outlined by the president today charts a strong path forward for American families.Building off the previous years’ successes, this budget furthers Democrats’ commitment to increasing federal investments in the programs and services that lower the cost of living for hardworking families, create better-paying jobs, keep our nation and communities safe, and protect our environment.

“To ensure that families can make ends meet and deal with the rising cost of living President Biden’s budget proposes to extend the expanded Child Tax Credit. I have called for this since the we improved the program in the American Rescue Plan and am grateful to have the support of President Biden in this effort to lower costs for working families and provide needed financial stability to the working and middle class.

“To strengthen our care economy, the president honors a request I made of him and calls for the establishment of a national paid family and medical leave program. We need to meet workers where they are now. Thirty years ago, we broke ground by establishing the Family and Medical Leave Act – ensuring unpaid leave for workers who need to take time off to take care of themselves or loved ones. I am proud to stand with President Biden in the effort to break ground again by finally making family and medical leave paid. We can do this by passing my FAMILY Act.

“Lastly, I am thrilled by the Biden administration’s commitment to a trade policy that centers American workers and manufacturing. The budget includes proposed funding to stand up an outbound investment review mechanism – similar to proposals I have outlined in my bipartisan National Critical Capabilities Defense Act. I will work with President Biden and my colleagues in Congress to make this legislation law and support the administration’s efforts to protect our national security, critical supply chains, and American workers.

“Overall, the president’s proposed budget charts a path forward that leaves all Americans better off, not just the wealthy few or the biggest corporations. Now, let’s get to work to make it law.”
