DeLauro Statement on Republican Proposal to Rescind Children’s Health Insurance Funds

May 7, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC (May 7, 2018) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Ranking Member of the Appropriations Subcommittee responsible for funding the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, today released the following statement regarding reports that President Trump and Congressional Republicans are planning to rescind funds from the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

"President Trump and Congressional Republicans' plan to take money away from the Children's Health Insurance Program is appalling. Their $1.5 trillion spending spree that cut taxes for the wealthiest Americans and corporations has clearly given them buyer's remorse, but that is no excuse to take resources away from children and their families. If they want to fix our nation's growing deficits, they could easily find the money by eliminating outrageous tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires, rather than taking money away from working families."
