DeLauro Statement on the Republicans’ Latest Vote to Repeal the ACA
WASHINGTON, DC (February 2, 2016) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement on the Republicans’ attempt to override the President’s veto of the reconciliation bill that would repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and defund Planned Parenthood. Today’s vote is the 63rd vote to repeal or undermine the ACA, and the 12th attack on women’s health care in the 114th Congress alone.
“Once again, House Republicans are doing a major disservice to the American people by voting to overturn the Affordable Care Act and defund Planned Parenthood. The facts are clear: millions of Americans around the country benefit from the ACA. Whether it is a senior who now has access to more affordable prescription drugs, or someone with a preexisting condition who is now covered by insurance, the ACA is working for Americans everywhere.
“Millions more women also benefit from preventive health services provided by Planned Parenthood, including life-saving cancer screenings, well-woman exams, birth control, and advice on family planning. House Republicans should stop their repeated attacks on women’s health and the health care of hard-working Americans, and should instead work to create jobs and expand opportunities for the middle class. There are too many critical issues in front of Congress to spend time and resources on an agenda that stands no chance of becoming law.”
