DeLauro Statement on Resignation of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez DeRemer
Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee, released a statement following reports that Labor Secretary Lori Chavez DeRemer has resigned:
“Secretary Chavez-DeRemer’s tenure as Labor Secretary was plagued with allegations of misconduct – from misusing her authority as secretary for personal gain and steering grants to favored political operatives to inappropriate behavior with her subordinates. This Department has been plagued by a failure of leadership. It is deeply ironic that the Cabinet secretary charged with ensuring a safe and fair workplace for America’s workers allegedly led one of the most toxic workplaces in Washington. Her exit is welcome news. I am hopeful it will allow the Labor Department to return to its mission of protecting America’s workers – not endlessly crisis managing allegations of misconduct against its own leader.
“Whoever is nominated next to serve as Labor Secretary should have a strong history of supporting workers, America’s unions, and the mission of the Department of Labor.”
