DeLauro Statement on 30 Day Stay in Deportation Case of Luis Barrios
WASHINGTON, DC (May 3, 2017) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding Luis Barrios, a resident of Derby, Connecticut who has received a 30-day stay in his deportation case.
"Tonight the Barrios Family has the assurance that their father will not be sent back to Guatemala for the next 30 days. While this is great news, Luis deserves to remain in this country with his family and I strongly believe that this action should be made permanent. The United States must do all that it can to end the practice of breaking up families, once and for all."
Earlier today, DeLauro spoke with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement regarding Mr. Barrios and pressed the agency to use prosecutorial discretion in his case. Last week, DeLauro wrote letters to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), asking the agencies to grant a stay of removal for Mr. Barrios.
