DeLauro Statement on Supreme Court Reversal of Chevron Decision

Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released a statement in response to a decision by the Supreme Court that reverses the Chevron decision, overturning over 40 years of precedent related to the government’s regulatory authority:

“The conservative activist majority on the Supreme Court has once again produced a decision that overturns decades of precedent while weakening the federal government’s ability to protect everyday Americans. This is judicial overreach and a blatant power grab – plain and simple.

“The conservatives on the Supreme Court have decided to empower billionaires and giant corporations to act with impunity. Make no mistake, this decision ties the hands of experts within the government to implement laws enacted by Congress to protect consumers from dangerous products, to protect the environment from polluters, and to protect our financial system from risky behavior on Wall Street. It gives judges - with no expertise - broad scope to interpret laws the way they see fit. Congress must quickly enact the Stop Corporate Capture Act and restore the balance of power between Congress and the courts. Our laws should be written by elected representatives and subject matter experts – not by unelected judges.”
