DeLauro Statement on Supreme Court’s Failure to Protect the Right to Abortion
DeLauro Calls on Congress to Pass Women's Health Protection Act
NEW HAVEN – House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) issued this statement on Texas' near ban on abortions and the Supreme Court's failure to prevent this dangerous law from going into effect:
"Today, the most restrictive abortion law in the nation went into effect in Texas prohibiting abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy—before many even know they are pregnant. This dangerous law is a full-scale attack on patients, their health care providers, and their support systems.
"Everyone should have the right to make their own health care decisions without interference from politicians. By allowing this Texas law to go into effect, the Supreme Court has shown they cannot be trusted to protect the constitutional right to choose. It is up to Congress to pass the Women's Health Protection Act to end this assault on reproductive freedom once and for all.
"We must protect and expand our rights everywhere. Health care should not be negotiable."
