DeLauro Statement on the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the President’s Budget
WASHINGTON, DC (February 9, 2016) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the President's FY 2017 budget.
"The President's FY 2017 budget shows that the Trans-Pacific Partnership is another bad trade deal for the American people and the economy. Not only is it projected to cost half a million U.S. jobs, but we also lose money doing it. With $28 billion in lost tariff revenue over the next 10 years, the TPP stands to grow our deficit, not our jobs or the economy.
"We must do more, not less, to build an economy that works for everyone, especially the American worker. The facts are clear: the TPP will ship jobs overseas and depress wages at home, exacerbating the issue raised with the lost tariff revenue. Trade agreements must work for the American economy and the Trans-Pacific Partnership does not."
