DeLauro Statement on Trump Administration Causing Uncertainty in Insurance Markets

May 22, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC (May 22, 2017) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the Trump Administration's decision to ask a federal court for another 90-day delay in the lawsuit over the Affordable Care Act's cost sharing payments.

"The Trump Administration is deliberately undermining the Affordable Care Act and creating extreme instability in the insurance markets. With its latest decision to ask for a 90-day delay in the lawsuit over the cost sharing payments, the Trump Administration is injecting uncertainty into the markets at the exact time insurers are setting rates for the upcoming year. Republicans like to blame the Affordable Care Act for sending insurance premiums skyrocketing, but they only have themselves to fault.

"Millions of Americans depend on the Affordable Care Act for life-saving health coverage. Driving up the cost of insurance and causing insurers to leave some of America's most underserved communities does nothing to ensure affordable health care. Rather than continue to weaken and dismantle the Affordable Care Act, Republicans in Congress and President Trump should work with Democrats to find ways to strengthen and improve the law."
