DeLauro Statement on Trump Administration’s Hurricane Relief Request
Washington, D.C. (October 5, 2017) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement in response to the Trump administration’s request for $29 billion in aid to hurricane victims and flood insurance assistance.
“Two full weeks after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico—leaving millions without power, water, food, or medical supplies—President Trump has finally requested additional resources to help those in dire need, and much more is still needed,” said DeLauro. “These are American citizens, and they deserve better than an administration dragging their feet when their lives are on the line.”
“During my meetings with local officials and constituents on Monday, I heard first-hand from family members of those affected in Puerto Rico regarding their urgent need for help. Without an adequate response, this has quickly turned into a crisis in the aftermath of this unprecedented storm. It is beyond obvious that something has to be done.”
“I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to quickly act on this important matter.”
