DeLauro Statement on Trump Administration’s Overtime Rule Change

September 24, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC (September 24, 2019) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee responsible for funding the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, today released the following statement after the Department of Labor released a final overtime pay rule.

"The Trump administration's new overtime rule leaves out millions of American workers who deserve a raise now. The biggest economic challenge of our time is that people are in jobs that do not pay them enough to keep up with the rising costs of healthcare, child care, housing, and education. People are working longer and longer hours just to make ends meet, yet today's rule change shortchanges 3.1 million people who would have received overtime pay under the Obama administration's 2016 rule. President Trump and Congressional Republicans are rigging the economy against working people and the middle class, who are too often living paycheck-to-paycheck. I will continue fighting for Democrats' For The People agenda so people get paid what they have earned."
