DeLauro Statement on Trump Nominating Alexander Acosta as Secretary of Labor

February 16, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC (February 16, 2017) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding news that President Trump has nominated Alexander Acosta as Secretary of the Department of Labor. DeLauro is the Senior Democrat on the Appropriations subcommittee responsible for funding the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and related agencies.

"American workers defeated President Trump's first nominee for Secretary of Labor by fighting for the Department of Labor to remain an effective agency that strengthens workplace protections and defends workers' rights. President Trump has heard our voices loud and clear and I am pleased that he has chosen to take a different path with his new nominee, Mr. Acosta.

"While I will fully vet Mr. Acosta, he has a markedly different record than President Trump's first nominee. I look forward to hearing Mr. Acosta's commitment to the economic security of American workers, which should include raising the minimum wage, investing in job training, combatting wage theft, ending pay discrimination, prioritizing workplace safety, and more."
