DeLauro Statement on Trump’s So-Called ‘Infrastructure Week’
WASHINGTON, DC (June 9, 2017) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding President Trump's ‘Infrastructure Week,' which allegedly concluded today.
"President Trump's ‘Infrastructure Week' was nothing more than a sham. Despite campaign promises to release a plan, so far President Trump has announced a permitting council that already exists, and a vague plan to create $1 trillion in infrastructure improvements with a mere $200 billion investment. Recycling campaign talking points does nothing to put shovels in the ground, bridges over rivers, or Americans into jobs. The American worker deserves concrete action from this Administration, not more rhetoric.
"If the Administration is serious about supporting working Americans, President Trump must end trade agreement waivers on Buy American rules for infrastructure projects to support good paying American manufacturing jobs. And rather than rewarding multinational corporations for moving overseas with a corporate tax give-away, we should close tax loopholes and end overseas tax dodging. We cannot succeed without public investment.
"Congress should immediately enact my National Infrastructure Development Bank Act, which would address the tremendous shortfall in infrastructure investment, create jobs, spur long-term economic growth, and improve our competitiveness across the globe. This legislation is ready to go and would build on President Trump's campaign promise to create millions of American jobs and rebuild our nation's crumbling infrastructure. Now is the time to act."
