DeLauro Statement on Trump Signing Coronavirus Relief and Omnibus Spending Package
NEW HAVEN, CT – Chair-designate of the House Appropriations Committee Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) issued this statement after President Trump’s belated signing of H.R. 133, the bipartisan coronavirus relief bill and omnibus spending package:
“This economic relief and omnibus spending package will help the American people begin to recover and rebuild. From investments in our schools and child care industry to food assistance for hard-working families to investments in our workforce and critical protections for our environment and natural resources, this bill creates opportunities and allows our communities to build back better.
“This bill should have been signed without this unnecessary delay, as soon as it passed the Senate. This relief must be implemented immediately so people can worry less about their unemployment benefits, their next meal, the future of their small business, and the potential of being evicted from their home.
“Today, my Republican colleagues in the House will have the chance to join Democrats in the fight to put money in the pockets of Americans. I hope that they listen to the people and support the increase of direct payments to $2,000.
“The coronavirus relief included in this package is a start, but I am committed to fighting for more relief to support families and help our businesses recover. I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and the Biden-Harris Administration to pass additional coronavirus relief so our communities can rebuild stronger and more prosperous.”
