DeLauro Statement on Trump’s Mail-In Ballot Executive Order

April 1, 2026

Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released a statement in response to President Trump’s executive order that would limit Americans’ ability to vote by mail:

“It is the height of hypocrisy that a man who voted by mail himself is trying to limit that right for everyone else. His reasoning is transparent. He claims with no evidence that it is because of rampant fraud – there is none. The truth is that President Trump wants to limit access to the ballot box to keep himself and Republicans in power. That is antidemocratic and against the values this nation was built on – values that have sustained our democracy for 250 years.

“The American people are stuck in a cost-of-living crisis made worse by this Administration’s foreign wars, tariffs, and cuts to healthcare. President Trump knows he has failed and that the American people will hold him and Republicans accountable at the ballot box. His attempts to escape this accountability and curtail the right to vote will fail.”
