DeLauro Statement on U.S.-led Strikes in Syria

WASHINGTON, DC — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the Trump Administration's decision to launch airstrikes in Syria.

"Bashar al-Assad's most recent chemical attack on innocent Syrians was vicious and inhumane, and it demanded a forceful response from the international community. The United States-led strikes, conducted in concert with our allies in the United Kingdom and France, are a timely and targeted response to the Assad regime's despicable violation of international law."

"Still, our country cannot continue to conduct international relations reactively. Nothing makes that point clearer than the fact that these strikes took place nearly one year to the day from President Trump's last decision to launch airstrikes in Syria following Assad's previous chemical attack. As such, it is imperative that President Trump work with Congress to develop a clear strategy on Syria, and that Congress fulfills its Constitutional responsibility to debate any further use of military force."
