DeLauro Statement on U.S.-Mexico NAFTA Agreement

August 27, 2018

NEW HAVEN, CTCongresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding President Trump's announcement that the United States and Mexico have released an agreement in principle.

"Too many working people have not seen a pay increase in years and struggle to find good-paying jobs because NAFTA has driven down workers' wages and shipped their jobs overseas. Any new NAFTA must raise wages for American workers, get rid of the current agreement's outsourcing incentives, and put working families ahead of special interests and big corporations. To that end, a strong labor chapter with a swift enforcement mechanism must be included in any deal. I look forward to reviewing the text of this bilateral agreement and will continue to push the administration to achieve a strong, trilateral agreement that puts workers in all three countries first."
