DeLauro Statement on Victory Kitchens Chicken Noodle Soup Recall

NEW HAVEN, CT— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today on news that Victory Kitchens is recalling chicken noodle soup that contains chicken from Thailand, which is not approved for export to the United States. The soup entered the U.S. through Canada.

“American consumers rely on our food safety system to ensure they and their families can have confidence their meals will not make them sick. The news that unapproved chicken products made it into our country raises a host of questions about whether that system needs to be called in to question. I have long been troubled by systemic issues at the Food Safety Inspection Service and this adds to the list of reasons to be worried. I will be following up with FSIS to find out how this shipment made it into our country and how to ensure this does not happen again.”
