DeLauro on the Trans-Pacific Partnership: No Lame Duck Vote
WASHINGTON, DC (July 12, 2016) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement reaffirming opposition to a Lame Duck vote on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which was underscored in remarks by the presumptive Democratic nominee for president.
“Americans across the country are raising their voices in opposition to the Trans-Pacific Partnership and they have made the issue a central focus this year. And while both candidates for president continue to reaffirm their opposition to this agreement, President Obama continues to push this flawed agreement onto the American public and Members of Congress.
“Congress is a body that represents the American people and a Lame Duck vote to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership will not only go against the American people’s will, it will be shameful and wrong. President Obama should not attempt to force a vote on the Trans-Pacific Partnership in Congress, before or after the election, not when the American people are overwhelmingly against it.”
