DeLauro Urges Trump to Support Robust Public Investments on Infrastructure

January 31, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC (January 31, 2018) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding the absence of an infrastructure plan presented by President Trump during his State of the Union.

"President Trump's State of the Union address last night highlighted the need to fix our crumbling infrastructure, but his Administration continues to fall short on the details of a real plan to fix our nation's infrastructure. The federal government needs to invest to fix our highways, bridges, transit, airports, high-speed rail, waterways, ports, public schools, harbors, and energy and telecommunications systems. The burden of funding cannot be placed solely on state and local governments. Moreover, despite his insinuation, environmental permits are not to blame for our crumbling infrastructure. Rather, it has been a lack of robust public investment over decades that has compounded into the crisis we face today. Now is the time to act."

DeLauro led a letter yesterday with 75 House Democratic colleagues to President Trump, urging him to include a National Infrastructure Development Bank in any forthcoming infrastructure proposal. DeLauro's "Vision for the Future on Infrastructure" can be found here.
