DeLauro Visits Platt Technical High School
Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) visited the Platt Technical High School in Milford, Connecticut today, and toured their Manufacturing Technology Department.
Through innovative instruction and real-world training with modern technology, Platt Technical High School is able to better prepare its students for their careers in specialized industries. More than 800 students across 24 different towns and cities attend the school. Congresswoman DeLauro observed a short demonstration of the Manufacturing Technology Department's capabilities, met with some of the students, and discussed what opportunities for the school lay ahead.
Congresswoman DeLauro was joined by State Senator Gayle Slossberg, State Representatives Barbara Lambert, Dick Roy, and Paul Davis, Gene LaPorta, Principal of Platt Technical High School, David Tuttle, Department Head, Manufacturing Technology, and other local school and education representatives.
"Few high schools give their students the skills to reach industry certification. And few high schools give their students this kind of precious foot in the door," said Congresswoman DeLauro. "Connecticut has always had a rich history of manufacturing and innovation. And, even though we have seen local manufacturers become leaner and more flexible to remain competitive in recent years, schools like Platt are helping us maintain this tradition."
