DeLauro Votes to Help Connecticut Homeowners, Restore SALT Deduction

December 20, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC — (December 19, 2019)Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement after voting for the Restoring Tax Fairness for States and Localities Act (H.R. 5377), which would restore the state and local tax deduction (SALT). President Trump and Republican's 2017 tax bill cut the deduction, causing 87,800 households to face property tax increases in the Third District.

"Two years ago, President Trump and Congressional Republicans raised taxes on hardworking homeowners in Connecticut. Their partisan tax bill took direct aim at people in states like Connecticut, punishing people who fund better schools, health care, transit, and social services through their state and local taxes. Capping the SALT deduction is an unreasonable and bad policy, it hurts working people and middle-class families who are struggling to make ends meet with rising costs, and I am glad to have voted to reverse it today. I urge the Senate to pass this important bill."
